Make Beer Here

We want YOU to bring beer back to Cumberland!

Cumberland’s brewing heritage goes back to the mid-1800s and at its peak following World War II the thriving brewing industry employed more than 300 people in our city. In 1974, the last brewery closed and a remarkable part of our city heritage and tradition went with it.

Today in the United States, there are now 5,005 breweries compared to 10,000 wineries. Almost all (99%) are small and independent craft brewers. These small and independent breweries are growing by eight percent each year, reflecting dynamism and a bright spot for the domestic beer market.

The Footer Building is an ideal location for a brewpub. The building has fantastic visibility and easy access from Interstate 68. It is also situated at the terminus of the C&O Canal National Historical Park and the junction of the 150 mile Great Allegheny Passage Trail that connects Pittsburgh, PA with Cumberland, Maryland and the 184.5 mile C&O Canal Towpath that connects to Washington, DC.
